Just in 60 seconds, Formula 1 to 270 kmph!

Speed, sound, smoke and glamour this sunny Saturday afternoon, a distinctly different set of thrills took centre stage at Rajpath. More than 10,000 people gathered on the prestigious stretch to get their first glimpse of how exciting burning rubber would get when Formula 1 races into India on its inaugural leg on October 28.

When nattily dressed and a rather bemused by the Indian ovation, Red Bull reserve racer Daniel Ricciardo stepped into his speed machine RB7 to show what it actually means to touch 270 kmph in a matter of seconds, it was gathering at noon with smoke balls mounting up to cloud the India Gate.

Bhangra beats merged effortlessly into a high-octane rendition by Indian Ocean. Celebrities joined the familiar man in their worship of the ultimate and maiden speed show on Indian roads. Ricciardo, considered the fastest rookie driver ever, who replaced our own Narain Karthikeyan in F1’s Hispania team, joined the very Indian drumbeats before giving the Capital its first taste of F1 proceedings.

The crowd which lined up on either side of Rajpath comprised Red Bull Racing fans, Formula 1 enthusiasts and curious onlookers, VJs and some Bollywood personalities too.
