2013 Porsche Panamera GTS - First Drive
Porsche’s Panamera is now available as eight versions in the U.S. You can, for example, slide in at $75,200 for a 3.6-liter V-6 Panamera and get to 60 mph in 6.0 seconds. Or you can leave that in the dust with the $173,200 4.8-liter Turbo S, which hits 60 in 3.6 sec. Or perhaps you would like better to tip your green-tinted hat as you drive by in your $95,000 S Hybrid.
So where does that put the newest variation, the $109,900 GTS. Porsche calls it, the sportiest of all Panamera models. That assert seems odd given the Turbo’s spot at the top of the horsepower and image list, but once you’ve driven the GTS, Porsche’s announcement makes sense.
We were at the Ascari circuit in Spain to try the 2013 Porsche Panamera GTS, which was popping its split-second PDK shifts as soon we accelerated uphill away from the pits. You would need much of the Panamera schedule there to make back-to-back comparisons, but reasonably rapidly you can sense this one has a firmer edge. Point the nose to a summit and there’s a split second of confidence-inspiring under steer, but then the car sets and responds. Not that Panameras are known as leaners, but this one is even less so. You almost forget there are two supplementary seats behind you.

Chevy to improve Volt after battery fires
Federal regulators have permitted a General Motors Co. proposal to revise the configuration of its Chevrolet Volt to reduce the hazard of an electrical fire.
The redesign was prompted by a formal protection defect investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety organization into the Volt's lithium-ion sequence pack, after two fires that followed crash tests, Wired.com reported.
GM has defended the Volt, which has received a five-star wellbeing rating, but said the amendments will make the car safer. The Volt has always been safe to oblige. Now, we will go the extra mile to ensure our customers' peace of mind in the days and weeks following a severe crash, Mary Barra, senior vice leader of global product enlargement.
In June a Volt caught fire three weeks after a side-impact collapse that punctured the battery pack and caused coolant to leak, eventually causing a short circuit, GM said.GM said it would toughen part of the Volt's underbody to enlarge protection of the pack in a ruthless side collision.

Nissan to produce Merc four-pots in US engine plant
The latest development of Daimler-Benz’s collaboration with the Renault-Nissan Alliance is a deal that sees the Nissan powertrain assembly plant in Decherd, Tennessee help build Merc’s four-cylinder petrol engines.
Production is set to commence in 2014, with the plant able to churn out 250,000 engines at full capacity. The Decherd plant was commissioned by Nissan in 1997, and today it serves to manufacture a range of engines for various Nissan and Infiniti models.
The plant houses its own crankshaft forging and cylinder block casting operations and produced more than 580,000 engines in 2011. Among the first recipient of Tennessee-built Merc engines will be units of the C-Class rolling out from Daimler’s plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Caterham F1 to set sights higher
Team Lotus, now officially renamed as Caterham F1, have set their sights on starting to beat the more experienced teams in 2012.The name change marks the formal end to the dispute over the Lotus name in F1.Chief technical officer Mike Gascoyne said: "It's time to take the fight to the more established teams and start beating them.
The outfit have finished 10th of 12 teams in the two seasons since they entered F1.Team Lotus beat HRT and Virgin, but they have been unable to bridge the gap to the back of the midfield apart from on a handful of occasions. But two consecutive seasons of finishing 10th ensures them a greater share of F1's prize money and the team, in their new guise, are confident that can be the springboard to beating the lower midfield runners, such as Williams, Toro Rosso and Sauber.

Red Bull set to dominate?
To some, the decision of Red Bull and Ferrari to pull out of the Formula 1 Teams' Association, the umbrella group that represents the teams' interests, could look innocuous enough. In reality it could have far-reaching consequences. The F1 teams have put a brave public face on it, but behind the scenes there are serious concerns that it could lead to a period of Red Bull domination about which their rivals can do little.
The move by two of F1's most powerful teams was provoked by continuing distrust about whether all of the competitors were adhering to the terms of a document called the Resource Restriction Agreement.
The RRA sets out limits on the amount of staff, external spend and aerodynamic research teams can employ and covers work on the design of the car - with drivers' salaries, marketing and engines excluded. It is not a budget cap per se, but it does have the effect of keeping costs under control, to the point that the biggest budgets have dropped from in the region of £300m in 2008 to an estimated £150-200m in 2011.
To cite just one example, the RRA limits the amount of hours a team can dedicate to wind-tunnel testing - a key way of honing an F1 car's aerodynamics, the single biggest performance differentiator. And the more wind-tunnel hours you do, the less simulation of aerodynamics on a computer is allowed .Because there is only so much of this work that a team can do, there is only so much money they can spend. The problem that has arisen is that some of the teams - led by Ferrari and Mercedes - believe Red Bull have been exceeding these limits since 2010, the first of their two consecutive title-winning years.

FIA confident single DRS zone sufficient at Interlagos
FIA race director Charlie Whiting says the governing body has decided to use just one DRS zone at this weekend’s Brazilian Grand Prix given overtaking is already customary down Interlagos’s main straight. The previous two races in India and Abu Dhabi saw two separate DRS zones in operation but Whiting says there will only placed down the circuit’s backstraight – between turns three and four – as a second zone could potentially make overtaking too straightforward at the season-ending event.
There will be one DRS zone on the back straight,he said.We think this will be enough, as the main straight usually gives a good enough opportunity to overtake anyway, so we don’t want to make it too easy.Meanwhile, Whiting also revealed that the FIA was planning on making some major changes to the final corner of the 2.68-mile track in time for next year’s event in order to boost safety.Earlier this year a Brazilian stock car driver was killed after an accident at the fast curved final corner when his car bounced off the wall back on to the racing line.F1’s drivers have traditionally cut across the white line marking the start of the pit entry lane on a flying lap and Whiting said: There are a couple of minor changes to the circuit but next year there could be something much bigger: we’re hoping to build a new pit entry and a larger run-off around the last corner, but this is a big job as it will require removing a couple of permanent grandstands.

Prizes and honour at stake as season approaches end
Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull's dominance has meant for only the 2nd time since 2005 Formula One has had 'dead rubbers' at the end of the season. The race to be number one may be over in both championships but there are still a few things worth keeping a eye on in Abu Dhabi and Brazil to keep you enthralled.
Constructor's championship: The top 4 is basically set and despite Renault's recent poor run (6 points in 6 races since Nick Heidfeld left the team) a 21 point margin over Force India should be enough to maintain 5th place. Things are much tighter from 6th to 8th:
Force India 51
Sauber 41
Toro Rosso 41
Sauber had started the season really well as their low tyre wear paid dividends in some of the races where cars were stopping 4 times. However the loss of 10 points in Australia after the rear wing was deemed illegal may come back to haunt the Swiss team. Force India have steadily improved after a difficult winter. Between Di Resta and Sutil, one has usually been in the hunt for a top 10 finish. Toro Rosso were not fighting for points with regularity early in the season but a focus on race performance and new aerodynamic updates have seen the team start to claw their way into the midfield battle and they now find themselves just behind Sauber on countback
On present form i feel Force India will have enough to hold onto 6th and that Toro Rosso will take some points to jump up to 7th. Sauber's best hope may be that Renault pick up form and that the top 10 becomes locked out by the top 5 teams and the championship standings remain stable until the end.

Ceccon amazed by Formula 1 machinery
Kevin Ceccon admitted he was amazed by the performance of Formula 1 machinery after completing his first day of running in Abu Dhabi. The 18-year-old, this year's Auto GP champion, joined the Toro Rosso team to make his debut at the wheel of a grand prix car.Ceccon, who has also contested a partial GP2 season with Coloni, posted the 10th quickest time and was very pleased with his performance, as he felt he had adapted to the demands of Formula 1 quite quickly.
It's amazing, incredible. It's completely different from other car and the feeling is unbelievable, Ceccon told AUTOSPORT at the end of the day.It was very good. I reached a good level quite easily. Then for sure to get to the perfect driving style you need more time, but I think I got quite easily to a good driving style.
The Italian said he was not focused on setting quick laptimes, but rather on helping Toro Rosso with its preparations for the season finale in Brazil. We don't look at the times, he said. We are only concentrated to work on the car and to prepare everything. I know that the engineers are happy about my work and I don't look at the laptimes. It was quite a good day. I learned a lot and I hope that tomorrow will be better. And he feels this week's test will be a big help for him next year if he, as expected, secures a full-time drive in GP2.I think a lot, because Formula 1 helps you a lot and teaches you a lot about everything. I think that if I do GP2 next year this test will be very good for me.

Vacations are about letting ourselves loose and one way to do that is to relax in the golden sands or surf through the silvery waves. Yes am talking about beaches, it is always great if we get a beach vacation and it’s even better if it’s private. Private beach vacation rentals are available in plenty today and they are an experience of our own; imagine however rich you are can you buy the beach? Yes it’s practically impossible but this is a great chance to do it.

Vacation Rentals- The cheaper option?
There has been this kind of talk going for quite some time now. While we plan for our holidays the kids don’t worry much since they don’t have enough time for their plans to enjoy. The worries are left to the poor heads of the family on how to plan their vacations on shoestring budget.
This world is an amazing place with beautiful locations. There will be a lot of dream trips planned by all of us and some common dream destinations will be France, Italy, Florida, Hawaii, California etc. Once we decide to go on such vacations, it’s necessary that we book a luxurious holiday rental to enjoy our trip even more.
Today the prices are sky rocketing all round the world; we can see the so called local shops raising their rates almost near to the big shots. Today it’s a better option to pay more and enjoy more as quality is what all of us would like. So this is the similar case for holiday villas/cottages. They provide you with a great amount of amenities be it swimming pool, spa, community golf courses, kitchen etc. So instead of restricting your budget by booking cheap quality hotels and ruining the vacation this is a far better option.
Vacation rentals are actually cheap as with your own kitchen you get to cook your own food and with swimming pool & other recreations you get to save a lot. Also hotel rooms will restrict on average 3-4 persons per room but here you can find vacation villas having ability to accommodate 12-15 people so in the end it’s cheap and as a bonus you are set to stay together with your family.Enjoy world tours booking vacation rentals, holiday cottages and cabin rentals at thebestvillas

F1: Ecclestone paid bribe to keep tax authorities at bay
Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone told a German court on Wednesday he had paid a former BayernLB banker to stay quiet and keep tax authorities at bay while acquiring the rights for his sport five years ago.
Gerhard Gribkowsky, a former employee of Germany’s second-largest public sector Landesbank, is on trial, charged with selling Formula One rights in return for a bribe, with the involvement of Ecclestone.
Gribkowsky is charged with bribery, embezzlement and tax evasion in a deal that cost the bank 66 million euros (57 million pounds) with him pocketing about 32 million euros as part of a bribe, according to prosecutors.
Ecclestone said he was concerned Gribkowsky could talk to British tax authorities about his businesses and, even if he was legal and correct, a tax probe might be damaging and costly.I had no alternative at the time,” the 81-year-old Ecclestone, wearing a dark blue three-piece suit and tie, told a Munich court, saying he had paid off the banker.
“The only alternative was that the British tax authorities followed a case that would have been very expensive for me,” said Ecclestone, who has immunity from prosecution for his testimony but not in general for his role in the affair.

Singapore GP review: Vettel awesome again – but does Webber need to go?
Sebastian Vettel cruised to another easy victory at this afternoon’s Singapore Grand Prix, enjoying a drama-free night at the Marina Bay Circuit en route to his ninth race win of the season. He’ll have to hang on at least another two weeks to claim his second world championship, though, after Jenson Button continued his strong form to roll home in second.
Considering both Seb and Marko have got the same benefits at their disposal, we think it’s a fair enough question. Rather than being the deadly partnership they so often looked like last season, right now the two Red Bull drivers are reminiscent of an ’80s TV hotshot cop and his bumbling sidekick – all Marko needs is a moronic catchphrase and a rubbish suit.

Formula 1 Lay Down to Adjoin second US Race on streets of New Jersey- 2013
Formula 1 is set to have two grands prix in the United States from 2013, with plans for a race around the streets of New Jersey expected to be confirmed as early as next week.
Although F1 is returning to the US for the first time next year with an event in Austin, Texas, Bernie Ecclestone has made no secret of the fact that he would like another event in the country - with his preferred location being New York.
High level sources have revealed that the plans have now reached fruition, and an announcement is expected to be made by New Jersey governor Chris Christie and other local politicians next week.
It is understood that the New Jersey GP will take place in June 2013, so it can be a back-to-back race with Canada, which will then leave the Austin event to keep its place at the tail end of the schedule to tie up with the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Last year, the Mayors of Weehawken and West New York revealed that they were in the preliminary stages of talks with a group of investors to hold a grand prix in the area from as early as 2013.
It is not confirmed where the track will be, but it is likely to run along the banks of the Hudson River - using the waterfront and the iconic Manhattan skyline as a backdrop.
The Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday that a press conference has been scheduled at Port Imperial in Weehawken for next Tuesday, where an announcement could be made.

On the Verge of Greatness is Vettel?
Anything you may think about Sebastian Vettel, surely there can be no disagreement that he deserves the 2011 title more than anyone else? F1 drivers rarely harmonize each other but the charitable praise from Vettel's rivals say the lot about his appearance as a worthy champion.
They might not have said that a year ago when Vettel came out on top at the eleventh hour, his 2010 season marked by blinking displays of superiority and peevishness. Five wins had to be offset by the controversial incident with Mark Webber in Turkey, the basic error behind the Safety Car in Hungary and the misjudgment when irritating overtaking Jenson Button in Belgium. In my view, the spinning point came right here in Mokpo, venue for this weekend's Korean Grand Prix. The Vettel who returned on foot to the pits was not only philosophical but also aware that his mechanics and engineers would be as dissatisfied as he was, particularly when Fernando Alonso went on to score his third win in four races and become challenge preferred. The mistake would be to conclude that just since Vettel has won nine races so far this year; it's only because of Adrian Newey's genius.
